What 'We' Talk About When We Talk
About Frank Mikus

Frank Mikus (mick-us) is a small design firm that does everything 'Big' design firms do: print, web, interactive, marketing and brand strategy. More often than not, we hear "I didn't know you did that!" from our clients. Rather than an interminable list of specific deliverables, think of it this way: if your logo goes on it, should go on it, or needs to go on it, we've designed it (and created the logo itself; sometimes even the name).

When ''we' say 'we', we mean mostly a sole proprietor -- that's him, to the right. The basic sell is all the skills of a larger, more experienced firm -- with far better access to the design and strategy principal -- at less cost. For smaller clients, that tends to make us seem expensive. Larger clients fear the lack of a full team. We balance these concerns with extraordinary value (it may cost a little more, but you get a lot more) and flexible work arrangements. We know what it takes to service a large account, and have plenty of peers to partner with should the occasion arise.

Biography, Nic Musolino, Proprietor

Nic has what one always charitably calls an 'eclectic' background. You might ask him what he wants to be when he grows up. After all, he is writing this (the answer: I don't know -- what is it they say about the journey being half the fun?).

Studies in architecture and literature led him to positions as an architectural designer -- winning several national design awards -- a board member of a collective operating an alternative art space, a database/operations consultant, a controller, and freelancing in the comics industry, as a member of the art team responsible for a full run of a Star Trek-branded comic for Marvel. In 2004 he collaborated with Alexander Gelman of Design Machine, editing Infiltrate: The Front Lines of the New York Design Scene (DAP, 2005)

His previous positions have included: Client Services Manager at FutureBrand, an international brand consultancy, Financial Liaison for watersdesign, and consulting with over two dozen design firms in the New York City area, supporting them in a variety of strategic, administrative and creative capacities. Most recently, he was Managing Director of mNovak Design.

Nic also writes broadly about New York design and culture for several blogs, including Miss Representation, featured recently in Architect Magazine. Most recently, he was invited to join the board of directors of the Curious Frog Theatre Company.
